ORT in Belarus
In Belarus ORT is represented by three educational establishments:
The ORT Bialik Secondary School # 132 in Minsk opened its Jewish department in 1992. Since then, the school has attracted students from primarily secular Jewish families who are usually highly assimilated but still seek a Jewish educational framework for their children. Many of these families face unstable economic situations and hope to improve their children’s future through education.
In addition, two ORT KesherNet vocational training centers have been established in the country. KesherNet is a joint project of World ORT and Project Kesher.
The ORT-KesherNet Center in Gomel for information and communication technologies began its operations in 2003. It is housed in the Jewish community “Akhud” premises.
The ORT-KesherNet Center in Polotsk for information and communication technologies began its operations in 2008. It is housed in a municipal secondary school.
