ORT VTC (ORT-KesherNet Centre) Yekaterinburg

The Lawson ORT Career Center was officially opened in April 2005, and is accommodated within the Jewish Community Center in Yekaterinburg. The aim of the Center is to provide ICT training for the Jewish population of the city, in order to help people secure employment. In 2007, the center became part of the global HP GET-IT (now called HP LIFE) program that trains students, potential entrepreneurs and small business owners – regardless of background – to harness the power of IT in order to establish and grow their businesses.

In 2017 the ORT Vocational Training Centre in Yekaterinburg joined the ORT-Keshernet centre network.

Cooperation with Jewish Organizations and Community

ORT VTC at the Yekaterinburg Jewish Community Center provides training in ICT for members of the Jewish community, consultations for the Jewish Community Center’s specialists on ICT issues, technical support for the Jewish Community’s events and actions, and organisation of seminars and conferences in the field of ICT and entrepreneurship.  

The Center also cooperates with the Jewish Agency and JDC, providing technical support for training and testing, and participating in projects and activities.  

The Lawson ORT Career Centre’s staff have developed new courses and learning content in conjunction with ORT VTC in St. Petersburg. Within the framework of the joint project "Improvement of the system of training of aged people in the field of modern information technologies", the following work was completed:

  • G.Brusnitsyna and I.Lebedintseva developed educational programs and kits (including a manual for teachers and resources for the participants) on the course "Computer for Life" for the aged people.
  • A training program for teachers to implement the course was developed and tested.
  • G.Brusnitsyna and I.Lebedintseva developed and conducted training modules and the distance course for educators "Methods and practices of training aged people", which ORT VTC St.St. Petersburg provides.
  • I.Shelegova became the winner of the contest of developers of teaching materials for aged students.

For the moment, the project is realized in cooperation with ORT VTC in St Petersburg and the Yekaterinburg Jewish Community Centre. Yekaterinburg ORT VYC staff also provides professional training for teachers and the courses for elderly people.

Employees of the ORT VTC  have actively cooperated with the Committee on Industry and Business ofAdministration of Yekaterinburg and the Regional Women Fund for Development of Women's Entrepreneurship  for several years. Within the framework of this cooperation more than 200 students of various educational institutions of Yekaterinburg and women entrepreneurs had been trained in the HP LIFE program.

The director of ORT VTC, Galina Brusnitsyna , who is also the master trainer of the HP LIFE program, conducted a training of trainers on the HP LIFE program for the following groups:

  • Teachers of the vocational training institutions of the Sverdlovsk region
  • Teachers of vocational training institutions of Khanty-Mansiysk District
  • Heads and young leaders of the All-Russian educational children centre “Orlyonok”

In addition, the Centre conducted training of schoolchildren and college students of Yekaterinburg on this program. The training is conducted according to group enrolment.

Since 2012, the Lawson ORT Career Centre has worked on the Cisco Networking Academy program. Training courses are conducted in two main directions: IT Essentials, CCNA and one express – Internet of Things.

In 2017-2018, new courses were opened:

In the 2015-2016 academic year in Yekaterinburg, the project "Incubator PROF" was launched and Lawson ORT Career Centre became one of the organizers. Within the project, 180 senior school students from various schools in the city of Yekaterinburg were trained.

Senior grades’ students are trained at the National Technology Initiative Labs. ORT VTS team are providing students with career guidance consultations and organizing various quests and hackathons.

5. Program of preparation and support of participation in the Olympiad of National Technology Initiative (NTI)

Co-organizers of this project are Ural Federal University, Ural Polytechnic College and the Centre for New Information Technologies and ORT Centre all who develop, implement and promote new forms of vocational training for students in the field of Hi-Tech industry.


In November 2015, the first Incubator team participated at the National WorldSkills Championship in the JuniorSkills category of competence "Mobile Robotics" and at the meeting of the Board of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of the Sverdlovsk region senior school students were delivered certificates as the first project participants who have completed a course on "Mechatronics".

This project is aimed at increasing women’s quality of life in modern digital society. It is realized in cooperation with women’s Jewish organization Project Kesher.

In 2017 experts of ORT VTC in Yekaterinburg developed the course (in combination of indoor and distance learning) “Digital Society Technologies for Women”. This course is provided on the base of seven ORT-KesherNet centres in Tula, Rybinsk, Tambov, Volgograd, Kineshma, Tver and Yekaterinburg).



In September 2017, teachers of these centres were trained at the full-time methodical seminar "Digital Society Technologies for Women". Since October 2017, the centres have begun training for young women who are members of Jewish communities. The course is implemented by the method of mixed instruction, including, full-time and distance learning, webinars with external experts in various areas of digital life.

Contribution to the national education system

Since 2011, the ORT VTC in Yekaterinburg has participated in a program aimed at the promotion and development of robotics, entitled “Robotics: training of engineers and technical specialists for innovation in Russia”. The Center organized an academic conference in conjunction with the Ural branch of the Russian Academy of Education on the subject of the “Informatization of Education in the Sverdlovsk Area”. ORT VTCs experts are the members of the Sverdlovsk Regional Coordination Council for Robotics Development in secondary schools. 

In 2013, 2014 and 2015 three All-Russian scientific and research "Methods of teaching the fundamentals of robotics in primary and secondary education" conferences were held. The theme of the year in 2014 was "Continuity of Engineering Education", and in 2015 was “STEM education and robotics".

In 2014 "Robotraffic" competitions (developed by the Leumi Robotics Center of the Technion) became a part of the All-Russian Robotic Olympiad. To promote this event in 2015, workshops for regional representatives were organized (in cooperation with ORT VTC in St. Petersburg).

In 2013, on ORT's initiative, the All-Russian project "Practical Robotics for students based on Arduino”, for 100 teachers, which took place within the framework of distance learning, began.

In 2014, on ORT's initiative, the All-Russian experimental platform of the Federal Institute for Educational Development on the theme "Development of scientific and technical creativity and improvement of technical training of school and university students by means of Robotics” was opened and it is curated by the Director of the Lawson ORT Career Center in Yekaterinburg, G.Brusnitsyna.

In 2014-2016, distance courses for teachers in “Developing competence in modern digital technologies - Modelling of autonomous vehicles” were provided under supervision of Director of the ORT VTC in Yekaterinburg, G.Brusnitsyna.

In 2016-2017, the ORT VTC’s project team of the centre became a co-organizer and developer of the distance vocational guidance laboratory "Choose Yourself!” More than 270 participants took part in the work of the laboratory. The winner of the contest of career guidance portfolios, which had been developed within the laboratory, was given a ticket to the all-Russian camp "Ocean". In the summer of 2017, the ORT Center co-organized the stand of the Youth Policy Department of the Sverdlovsk Region and held "Youth Days in the NTI.
