ORT Media Centre in the Jewish Community of Lithuania, Vilnius
The ORT Media Centre opened in August 2011 and was generously funded by Mr. Clifford Gundle. The centre provides ICT training to members of the 3,500-strong Jewish community. The Media Centre has eleven computers: ten for students and one for a trainer. As well as advanced training for school children and working adults, the centre provides basic ICT teaching for those who have never used computers before. Located in the Jewish Community Centre in the heart of Vilnius, the centre also provides access to a fast Internet connection and printers.
Beginners are introduced to Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint, whilst more advanced users receive training on video and photo editing programs, the basics of Microsoft Access and advanced use of Microsoft Excel. Photo editing training groups have prepared various posters for community activities as part of their learning process.
The Media Centre also serves as a tool for unemployed people to learn about the basics of computers and to use the facility to look for jobs on the Internet.
