ORT "Aleph" Jewish Gymnasium, Zaporozhe
Zhaporozhye Jewish school was founded in 1992. In 2005 ORT opened its Technology Center at the school. During their studies, students will learn 4 languages – Ukrainian, Russian, English and Hebrew. They also receive a comprehensive Jewish education, and become familiar with state-of-the-art technological equipment. Students are able to develop their creativity through joining music, dance, and debating family, press and photo clubs.

In addition to teaching the state curriculum, the school offers advanced study in two tracks: Jewish education and technology education.

This course is taught from the 1st to the 7th grade. It covers contemporary Jewish music and songs, and songs for performing at Jewish celebrations.
This significant part of the Jewish studies curriculum consists of after school activities. Students learn how to prepare for and celebrate Jewish holidays. Students participate in the work of Arts circle where they make decorations and paintings for the Jewish holidays. Students also participate in project “School-Iwins” and “Masa Shorasim” – an experiential educational trip within the Ukraine on which students trace the Jewish history of the region through visiting places of both Jewish destruction and
ORT "Aleph" Jewish Gymnasium, Zaporozhe - Technology Education
- The school participates in “Robotraffic” international competition in the modelling and controlling robocars which traditionally take place in the Robotics Leumi Center of the "Technion" Institute in Haifa (Israel).
- Gymnasium’ robotics team successfully participates and usually took the prizes at Festival-Competition of Robotics among students and teachers of ORT schools in the CIS and Baltic countries.
- Students and teachers are active participants of international competitions conducted by ORT such as Animated Cards Competitions and Art Works Contests.
In the 2nd -4th grades students are acquainted with first machine and mechanism; make their first constructions using LEGO equipment “Early simple machines” and “WEDO”.
In 5th grade students learn basic skills of the modelling process, making use of LEGO Educational kits. The course starts with a study of simple mechanisms, so that students can focus on the fundamental issues of technology and design.
Students in the 6th grade build on their knowledge and skills by learning more about design and about a systems approach, how to produce flow charts to describe technological systems; how to create basic algorithms for trouble shooting in technological systems; how to search for, process and present information using new technologies; how to assess the environmental impact of different technologies. They are shown that technology can be used in ways that meet the needs of humans.
In the 7th -8th grade students learn Robotics. This course includes the study of basic design, sensors and motors, and construction of basic models and modules. Students work with educational Lego robotics sets and learn how to programming robots using different language of programming. Teachers use the course “A basis in robotics for secondary educational establishments” which was developed in the Ukraine and approved by the Ministry of Education and Science.
Students in the 9th grade learn the principles of visual programming using Visual Basic.
Students in the 10th grade take a course entitled "Microsoft Excel in professional training". The course develops students’ skills in building information models, comprehensively analysing data and assessing the usefulness of information.
Students in the 11th grade take a course entitled “Data base learning”.
This subject is taught in the 2nd to the 11th grade (except the 9th grade), following the state program “Foundations of Computer Science”.
In the 2nd to the 4th grade students are acquainted with computer, its applications and basic components; get initial computer skills. Also pupils get idea of notification and information processes, history computing devices, graphical editor, files and folders, using windows, search data online, presentations and algorithms.
In the 5th and the 6th grades students study the Informatics course using the local educational methodology “InfoMandry”. InfoMandry is recommended by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and includes a textbook, a manual for teachers together with a CD of presentation materials, and interactive tasks hosted on an attractive and easy to navigate website.
In the 7th -8th grade, students learn about algorithmic language, create programs and are acquainted with modern operating systems, modern means of communication through the Internet, and e-mail clients.
In the 9th-11th grade students study a professionally oriented subject which has completed the “Foundation of Computer Science” program according to the state program of Informatics.
The basics of web design is studied in the 11th grade. Students learn how to structure information intelligently, how to design user-friendly web sites and how to work with web site design tools.
This is an optional course for students in the 10th and the 11th grade to develop their skills in filming, video editing and photography.
Contributions to the National Education System
The school organizes training seminars for teachers of ICT and history across the city.
A lot of students and teachers of ORT "Aleph" Jewish Gymnasium annually become winners of city, regional, All-Ukrainian and International competitions and Olympiads.
