Shaar HaNegev Junior High and Shaar HaNegev High School have a combined enrolment of 1,800 students from the surrounding areas, including Gaza Strip evacuees. In light of the regular threat of rocket attacks from Gaza, the Israeli Government decided that the school merited increased support, in recognition of its continued educational excellence despite such difficult circumstances.
The Government therefore released substantial funding for the construction of a new “safe” Shaar HaNegev school campus, providing reinforced, rocket-proof structures, allowing students and staff to focus on the educational mission of the school. In addition to the reinforced campus buildings, several safe room shelters across the campus allow students and teachers to quickly find a safe space, wherever they happen to be. World ORT has cooperated with the school and the government in order to take responsibility for funding the Science and Technology Centre on the new campus.
