BA in Mass Communications

The BA in Mass Communications is divided into two parts: a basic core curriculum of two years, followed by two years of specialization within different fields. Students may choose to specialize in audio-visual communication, journalism, advertising or corporate communications, or to take their degree without a specific area of expertise.

  • Graduates specializing in audio-visual communications are able to analyze and interpret the complex political, economic, social and cultural phenomena that surround and influence audio-visual productions. They master the expressive languages of audiovisual media, generate original ideas and insert them into audiovisual products, and are active in existing production structures. They master the production technologies used and are able to work in production teams.
  • Graduates specializing in journalism have a solid background in both theory and practice. They develop a sense of journalism ethics and social responsibility, while learning to be investigative, critical and reflective. They can work in different journalistic positions in the printed press, radio, TV or internet media, and are able to initiate and manage their own journalistic projects.
  • Graduates specializing in advertising can formulate strategies for institutional communication of products and services. They can integrate teams in advertising agencies, marketing or other business-based organizations on massive or segmented communications. They can also work in media management in business and communications media.
  • Graduates specializing in corporate communications are able to formulate, implement and analyze corporate communication plans, both internal and external. They are able to design programs for corporate identity and image, according to the global objectives and strategies of the business. They can integrate communication tools for the daily management of internal and external audiences. They can also work with journalists and media, determining appropriate channels for reaching specific audiences.
