BSc Economics

The BSc in Economics is a four-year study program for students interested in professional careers devoted to the understanding of economic processes. The curriculum offers the opportunity to specialize in Finance or Business Economics. The curriculum includes the following subjects: Principles of Economics, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Mathematics, Statistics and Econometrics, Finance, International Trade, Law, Business Strategy and Marketing.

The material is delivered through lectures and workshops and the degree culminates in either an internship or the preparation of a monograph. During the internship the student spends three to six months in public or private organizations or international agencies, enabling them to have a real professional experience in their field of interest. The monograph, which is offered as an alternative curriculum to the internship, obliges the student to use the analytical tools acquired during their studies, in a subject area relevant to economic science.

Graduates of the B.Sc. in Economics are capable of developing and analyzing public policies critically. These include tax reforms, health reforms, labor, trade and monetary policies, among others. In the public sector, previous graduates have worked in the generation and implementation of these policies; in the private sector, they act as consultants to companies and institutions analyzing the impact of these policies.
