BA in Industrial Design

The BA in Industrial Design is aimed at individuals with an interest in creating products within industrial and semi-industrial contexts.

The curriculum promotes the development of a critical and personal design style. It provides students with the familiarity of technologies needed to implement product projects and product lines. It also encourages students to look for productive alternatives which have not been considered in current business planning processes.

The curriculum is divided into three areas:

Design - topics covered include design and visual communication, typography, industrial design, computer graphics, project integration.

Instrumental - topics covered include digital design, expressive representation, design tools, product illustration, product photography.

Culture and Enterprise - topics covered include art and aesthetics, oral and written expression, ergonomics, industrial technology, business administration, finance, marketing, intellectual property, project management, contemporary design trends, regulatory frameworks.

Students augment their core studies by choosing a number of elective components, preparing an annual portfolio and undertaking project work.
